Menstruation and absenteeism in Uganda
Menstruation can make school attendance difficult when pain, lack of supplies, and inadequate facilities come together. These barriers can turn an ordinary school day into a missed one.

Menstruation can make school attendance difficult when pain, lack of supplies, and inadequate facilities come together. These barriers can turn an ordinary school day into a missed one.
The Sisterhood Chain International have created the Period Without Pause project to enable schoolgirls to keep attending school even during their period. We have partnered with St. Stephens Secondary School, Mukono (Dandira), Uganda to provide school girls with menstrual supplies. With the support of local leaders, we are identifying underserved schools where girls experience period poverty firsthand. Our goal is simple: No girl should miss school because she cannot afford menstrual pads.
The kit combines sanitary pads and reusable pads with clean underwear, wipes, and unscented soap. A towel and hot-water bottle help with hygiene and comfort. A cycle card offers a simple way to track periods and notice changes. Everything fits in a bag designed to keep the essentials together.
